Schemes and Deception

“Why do the nations conspire, and people plot in vain?” Verse 1 could easily be a current question we ask as we read today’s headlines.  Putin pushes into Ukraine. Hamas takes hostages. Israel fights back with air strikes. China continues to buy US land.

What a relief to know that we don’t need to carry the weight of the world’s problems on our shoulders. We have a refuge in the One, the Mighty One. If it were me, I’d bite my nails, pace the floor, and my stomach would churn into knots over all I see and hear. But God laughs and scoffs!

The truth is, He has already remedied the problem. This Psalm written centuries before Jesus’ birth points to him, God’s Son. God already sees him as the exalted one. The One who rules over the scheming kings of the earth.

So, Putin, Biden, Xi Jinping, Macron, and all world leaders, be warned. Your schemes and deceptions don’t go unnoticed by the One with all authority. Do as the Psalm says in verse 12, “Pay homage to the Son or he will be angry and you will perish in your rebellion, for his anger may ignite at any moment.” (ASV)

In other words, stop dead in your tracks. Get over your power hungry and prideful ways. Humble yourself. Reverence God. Take refuge in Him.

Think about the schemes of world leaders in headlines today. Pray for the leaders to acknowledge God, serve Him, and find blessing.
