Read Psalm 122 here.
I have to admit, I wasn’t excited to get dressed and ready to go to church this morning.
I wanted to stay home and relax in my comfy chair by the fire. I could be a recliner chair observer today, tune into the online service.
But, my husband wanted to go. So, I got ready.
On the way to the garage a verse from a Psalm of David came into my mind: I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go into the house of the Lord.”
I received it as God reminding me of the attitude he wants me to have about church. He loves the church and expresses that through David in this Psalm.
He wants me to love the church, too. He wants every Christian to love the church.
If you are a Christian and active with the church for long you may have become cynical like me. It’s hard to let go of the baggage and embrace the church, not to mention fellow Christians. Hurts and misunderstandings get in the way.
When I got to church and began worshipping my defenses came down. I noticed a young girl, maybe 5, holding her daddy’s hand and dancing in the aisle as we sang.
It was a sweet reminder of how my Daddy wants me to be glad to come to his house.
I stood there and just prayed, “God, help me let go of past hurts and really love your house, love the people of your house. Give me the freedom of that little girl to dance for joy in your house.”
Act and Ask
Picture yourself in the aisle of your church, free to praise and worship God, eager to hear his word preached. Go back to church if you haven’t been there for a while. If you have already been going but carry a weight from earlier church experience, ask God to help you let it go so you can dance.
