Through the praise of children and infants God establishes a stronghold against his enemies.

The Power of Small

Read Psalm 8 here.

Have you ever felt small? Well, I have good news for you today. God sees you differently.

God, majestic and holy, who has set his glory ABOVE the heavens ordains the praise of dictators, kings, and presidents.   You would think he would want all those powerful people to praise and honor him, wouldn’t you?

But no, that’s not what the Psalm says. It says he ordains the praise of children. What supreme power asks for praise from children?

Who would do that? Why does he do that? He does it because of his enemies! How can that be effective? He ordains the praise of children and infants to silence his enemies.

How interesting. What we, as humans perceive as the weakest, neediest, and most vulnerable God sees as the most powerful.

The mind of God is topsy-turvy to our way of thinking.

You know what? Even though I don’t understand the dynamic here, it encourages me today. God sees the weak, needy, and vulnerable of this earth. He treasures and values them. In fact, they are actually the ones with power. Power to move the hand of God.

My friend I am the weak, insecure, nobody that he uses if I let him. That’s you, too. Praise the Lord today and see what he will do through you.

But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. I Corinthians 1:27-29

Act and Ask:

God, I praise you for you are a topsy turvy God. You take what seems weak and change the world with it. Take me, take us, with our weakness, insecurity, and doubts and bring glory to your majestic name.
