I’ve always been both intimidated and fascinated with the ‘Proverbs 31 woman.’ She seems so perfect; so perfect that I think the title Wonder Woman is more fitting! Once in a while, I’ll compare my life, my days, my accomplishments, etc to hers and I always reach the same conclusion. She’s got it goin’ on and me? I don’t…not even close! But I’m glad Wonder Woman is described so vividly in Proverbs 31 because I can learn from her.
A few verses of this passage really jump out at me. First, Proverbs 31:12 states that Wonder Woman brings her husband good and not harm all the days of her life. I don’t know about you, but I’m guilty of mistreating my husband. When I’m really mad at him, I might even call him a mean name, like I’m still in elementary school or something!
Next, in verse 20, Wonder Woman “opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy.” This is going to hurt to admit, but the last time I truly extended myself to the poor and needy in my community was years ago when I candy-striped in the nursing home up the road.
Lastly, verse 25 speaks of Wonder Woman laughing at the days to come. Who does that? I’ll tell you who does….Wonder Woman! What and who empowers her to do that? The answer can be found in verse 30. “A woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” She fears the Lord! Not fears as in she’s afraid of HIm, but fears as in she reveres Him and is awestruck by Him. She respected HIm and obeyed His commands. You can see that her vision was aligned with God’s vision because of her life of total obedience to her Maker. Wow, what a woman!
