Overwhelmed?

“God’s peace be with you.” She ended the phone call before I could respond, “What? Wait a minute.” The words caught me by surprise.

This week of baking, purchasing gifts, rushing children to practices and games, working, and all the activities of the Christmas season had exhausted and overwhelmed me. I knew I was missing something.

“God’s peace be with you.” That’s what I’m missing – peace. I prayed right then and there that God would fill me with his peace.

Famous evangelist, Billy Graham’s booklet, Steps to Peace with God tells how Jesus is our peacemaker with God. He bought our peace by coming to earth that Christmas long ago. He sacrificed his life on a cross to wash away our wrongdoing and sin to satisfy God’s justness. He bought our peace with his life.

He didn’t stop there. He rose again so that beyond gaining a relationship and peace with God, we can also have life forever with him.

Jesus is the Prince of Peace. Whether you just need to remind yourself or you need a right relationship with God, you can have peace right now.

The disciple John records in chapter 14 of his gospel that Jesus said, “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”

When you are overwhelmed by the demands of the Christmas season, stop, then ask him to give his peace.

God’s peace be with you.

Take a few moments to enjoy “O Come, All You Unfaithul.” After all, Christ’s birth is all about bringing peace for the overwhelmed and unfaithful.
